The screenwriter is facing two first-degree murder charges in the stabbing deaths of his parents, Rob and Michelle Renner. Nick reportedly had a heated argument with his father the night before his parents died.
Nick hires him shortly after Allen’s arrest in December. Although he will not be advocating for her in court, he is still doing so in public.

California law may prevail over Nick Reiner’s freedom. This is why Alan believes his former client is innocent. But in an interview hot mic with billy bush Podcast, Allen made a bold statement about Nick. “Under the laws of the state of California, he is not guilty,” Allen said. Nick still faces the possibility of life in prison or the death penalty if convicted.
After withdrawing from the lawsuit, Nick retained Kimberly Green. He has 19 years of experience as a public defender. Allen said he and his team remain committed to Nick’s best interests, even though they no longer represent him.
Some wonder whether retainer fees may have been a reason for Allen dropping the case. He said he could not participate in it. He declined to give specific details about his return, saying only that it was necessary.
Allen has defended a number of high-profile clients, including Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and Karen Reed. In Karen’s case, he got her acquitted of murder in the death of her boyfriend.
Nick may plead not guilty by reason of insanity. We won’t know for sure until his arraignment on February 23.
