President Trump threatens to invoke Insurrection Act in Minneapolis
Tension continues to rise in Minneapolis following the second shooting of an ICE officer. The first shooting last week took the life of Renee Nicole Good. The crowd gathered to protest ICE conduct and the administration’s very strict immigration policies. Minneapolis officials have been urging protesters to maintain peaceful conduct.
Despite this, Trump threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act and deploy US troops to quell the protests. Whoopi and her fellow panelists think this could add fuel to the fire of an already dangerous tinderbox situation.
For now, the panelists reiterated the need to maintain peace on the streets and not respond to anarchy with anarchy. However, Whoopi touched on the civil rights movement of the past, saying that she thinks that no matter what happens, the ICE side will remain aggressive against protesters, and this could escalate the situation.
“For me, I’m really happy that people are doing it the right way,” he said. “Because if people had gone in a different direction, it’s a completely different story. It’s a completely different conversation. So I’m glad to see people exercising their right.”
He also said, “People protesting is not a rebellion. It’s just people protesting. When he’s saying he’s going to end it, he’s basically saying you’re doing something you’re not supposed to do.”
Joy Behar insisted on protesting and exposing the hypocrisy of the Trump administration. “On January 6, when the rebellion actually broke out, the administration said that the people attacking the police were tourists,” he said.
