Shayne continued, “I was smoking pot, breaking into houses, and hooking up with girls. I lost my virginity when I was twelve. So, you know, I was living with a bunch of very broken people who were growing up in homes like mine. And I just learned how to really take care of myself.”
Lisa wondered if Shiney had the support of her parents. Shayne admitted that he cared for her as much as he could. Then he started crying. Lisa immediately sat beside Shiny to console him.
She said, “You’re so special. I’ve said that since the first time I saw you, and I don’t know if you realize how special you are.”
Lisa continued, “You are so much; everything you’ve been through, you’ve come out on the other side. If you were my son, I would be so proud of you.”
