Rachel Maddow has high hopes Scott Pelley will step down at MSNBC after being fired from 60 Minutes
Rachel Maddow Said“There’s nothing else going on at CBS News other than what we can see. And I don’t know where Scott Pelley will end up. Frankly, that’s where I hope he ends up. I hope he’ll be on TV tomorrow. I hope that everyone in journalism and everyone who values a free press will figure out ways to beat back those who are trying to take the free press away from us.”
On June 2, CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss wrote a Letter To Pele. It reads, “Yesterday’s demonstrative display of hostility – carried out in front of the staff rather than in a civil, private conversation – demonstrates that you have no interest in contributing to the future success of the show, or coming into my new tenure with an open mind to collaboration and progress.”
Pelé, who had been part of 60 Minutes since 2004, responded to the firing, as reported deadlineSaying, “Our network’s new owner is casting this legend aside, apparently to curry a moment’s favor with the Trump administration. This waste is heartbreaking.”
“For my part, new management has instructed me to inject lies and bias into a politically sensitive story. I have been asked to include claims that are unverified. To date, in every case, I have managed to ignore these instructions or reject them. Recently, politicians have been invited to choose reporters to interview on the air. Giving politicians control over a 60 Minutes interview is not done this way,” Pele further said
He said, “60 Minutes’ leadership is no longer recognizable. The principles I hold dear are gone, and so should I.”
