Scene of hosts reflecting on America’s pride during heated discussion

As America approaches its 250th anniversary on July 4, host Scene A recent survey found itself divided. The survey indicates that “two in three Republicans are proud to be American, but less than one in five Democrats feel the same way,” according to Wrap.

The View’s Ana Navarro says many Americans are struggling with feeling “ashamed” of the government

according to voting In a survey conducted by Elon University and published June 2, among self-described Democrats, 18 percent said they felt “proud”, and 17 percent said they felt “grateful” when asked about their feelings toward the country. On the other hand, 68 percent of Republican voters said they feel “proud” to be American, while 19 percent said they feel “grateful.”

In response to the poll, Ana Navarro said during the June 5 episode of The View that she lived through a civil war, fled communism, and lives in a South Florida community full of people who have escaped political turmoil and persecution, adding that she will never take for granted the freedom, refuge, and opportunities the country has given her and many other immigrants.

“But I think you can separate feeling proud of America, feeling proud to be American, feeling proud of the extraordinaryness and resilience of this country, and feeling really embarrassed and ashamed and horrified by the American government right now,” she explained.

Pointing to the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretty, Navarro said, “I never thought in my entire life that I would see American citizens killed for exercising their right to protest,” she said. She added, “So yes! Yes, damn it! I’m ashamed of it. But I will never stop being proud to be an American.”

Host Elissa Farrah Griffin, the former White House director of strategic communications in President Trump’s first administration, immediately agreed, saying that being proud to be an American does not require ignoring the country’s significant flaws.

Griffin concluded by saying, “The thing that makes us so unique, and one of the things that makes me love this country so much, is that we are different from any other country on Earth because we are incredibly diverse racially, religiously, and socioeconomically. There is no other country on Earth that has that.”
