Shortly after his exit from NBC”Meet the Press” Interview With Kristen Welker, Donald Trump shares the reason behind his actions. He told reporters at the Agriculture Roundtable on Friday, “I just did an interview in the most beautiful barn I’ve ever seen… but it was raining. And it was with NBC fake news. And because it was raining, I got a little angry at them. I wasn’t happy with them. But we had a good time.”
The president’s pre-recorded “Meet the Press” interview with Welker was released Sunday. For his Friday interview, he sat in a dry barn with a metal roof in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Welker questioned Trump on a variety of topics, including gas prices, his claims of election fraud and riots, the state of American farming and the Iran war. However, after a few minutes, he called Welker out on his interview strategy before removing his microphone and walking off the set.
He said, “You’re crooked, and Meet the Press is crooked, and ABC and CBS and CNN are crooked too. One-sided crooked networks. Let’s shut it down, because I’ve had enough,” he said, adding, “Thank you, dear. Have a good time.” Yet Welker insisted on continuing the interview because he had traveled “all the way to Wisconsin” for the interview, Trump did not agree to further questions and said he sat in the rain “for an hour, intermittently,” giving him “ample time” before suggesting he “straighten up his press” because “no country can ever be great with a dishonest press.”
