“One hundred percent. Always, always wanted to adopt,” she said, recalling how her childhood dolls also involved stories of adoption. Unlike many children, she never pretended to be pregnant while playing at home.
However, this does not mean that she is ruling out having biological children. “Hopefully that will be in my future one day,” Millie said, clarifying that she would still like to have a child herself someday.
For the “Enola Holmes” actress, adoption wasn’t a comfortable decision. Before fully committing to acting, Millie studied social work and became fascinated with the adoption process, the experiences of birth mothers, and the impact adoption has on families. She said those lessons helped shape the thoughtful approach she and Jake took before welcoming their daughter.
The couple announced the adoption in August 2025, sharing their excitement while also clarifying that they planned to keep their daughter’s identity private. Till now, he has not revealed her name publicly or shown her face online.
While motherhood has brought joy, Millie admitted that it has also introduced her to an unexpected challenge: criticism from other parents. The actress revealed that she was surprised by some of the judgment she faced after becoming a mother, describing parts of the experience as “vicious”.
Still, she remains focused on the bigger picture. During her first Mother’s Day celebration earlier this year, Millie emphasized that all maternal figures deserve recognition, whether they’re adoptive mothers, birth mothers, or other forms of caregivers.
