In a SAG-AFTRA Foundation conversation, Gwyneth Paltrow revealed how having a Nepo baby helped her collaborate with her godfather, Steven Spielberg. He mentioned how this privilege landed him a role in the film “Hook”, directed in 1991. She said, “You know, there were some benefits of having the Nepo baby, which was that…Steven…Steven and Kate were very close.”
“Kate was actually my dad’s best friend,” the 53-year-old shared. She added, “They were best friends. Kate Capshaw… so I grew up with them… they really are our family.” Paltrow continued, “I remember going, me and my dad, to see ‘Silence of the Lambs’ with Kate and Steven.” She recalled, “We were going to the movie theater, and Steven was driving… I was in the back seat, and he kept looking in the rearview mirror and staring at me.”
The “Iron Man” star expressed how he felt, “Like, ‘Is there something on my face? Like what?’ She remembered, “And then he said, ‘Gwenny, would you do me a favor?’ The Oscar winner recounted how the director asked her, “Will you play young Wendy in ‘Hook’ in this movie I’m making about Peter Pan?” “I said, ‘Oh, okay’,” she exclaimed. “You know, no.” Paltrow added, “Oh, I didn’t say that… I said, ‘Yeah, I would. I would do that.’
The mother of two gleefully said, “Yeah, it was like my first one. I had one line… an English accent.” He also said, “By the way, the English accent isn’t very good – this was before my dialect coach days. … I had a wig and a dress.” She concluded, “Oh my God, it was so much fun. It was great.”
