Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are reportedly being sued over trademark infringement
1587 Sneakers has reportedly sued Travis Kelce patrick mahomes‘Prime on 1587 trademark infringement. 1587 Sneakers co-founder Adam King said in a statement, “From the beginning, we have expressed a sincere belief that there is room for mutual respect and understanding. That belief has not changed, and we look forward to resolving this matter amicably” (via espn).
In the lawsuit, the sneaker brand alleged that the name of the Chiefs players’ restaurant infringes on its brand name. Kelce and Mahomes launched their joint business venture, 1587 Prime, in Kansas City on Sept. 17, Mahomes’s 30th birthday last year (via People).
The Chiefs’ tight end and quarterback not only play on the same team but are also good friends. So, it’s no surprise that he launched a steakhouse with his jersey numbers. According to ESPN, the lawsuit states that 1587Sneakers began selling its shoes in April 2023, at least two years before Kelce and Mahomes opened their restaurant.
The US Patent and Trademark Office is reportedly reviewing the application for 1587 sneakers. Interestingly, the sneaker brand applied for the trademark in October 2025, a month after Kelce and Mahomes launched their steakhouse. The Chiefs tight end and quarterback applied for his trademark in December 2023.
Although the two businesses fall into different categories, the sneaker company is accused of apparel infringement because the steakhouse sells merchandise bearing the numbers “15” and “87.” The shoe brand alleges that a “large number of customers” have accessed the 1587 sneakers, believing they are related to Kelce and Mahomes’ 1587 Prime.
According to the lawsuit, the sneaker company wants the restaurant to stop using the name altogether because it has caused major confusion among fans.
