Gabby accuses Taylor Swift of stealing her idea
Musician Gaby Gamberg of indie project Dafoe made a claim on social media on February 12 that has since gone viral: Taylor SwiftThe new “Opalight” music video closely mirrors Dafoe’s April 2025 video.
The side-by-side comparisons shared by Gabby highlight that they see it as more than just a coincidence. Both videos focus on a retro-style infomercial featuring a spray product that promises to fix life’s problems. Dafoe’s “Quick Fix” video promotes a spray of the same name, while Swift’s “Opalite” clip markets an “Opalite” spray that is described as a relationship-saving potion.
The similarities pile up from there. Both artists are seen holding the product in promotional-style shots. Each video cuts to a dimly lit table scene with a spray bottle in the frame. Both show the singer sitting on a sofa and turning off the television on which the advertisement is playing. Gabby, who posted the comparison on Instagram, couldn’t contain her emotions about what she was seeing.
“Obviously, she was able to expand on this idea in ways that I couldn’t because she has resources and money that I don’t necessarily have access to,” Gabby shared in a now-deleted video. Gabby said, “But more or less, it seems to me at least like a complete screw-up of the concept. It doesn’t look good. She’s going to make a lot of money off of an idea that probably wasn’t hers.”
The reaction to Gabby Gamberg’s accusation has been one-sided. While some admire their courage in calling out a major industry figure, others suggest that the concept is not as unique as they claim.
Neither Swift’s representatives nor Gabby have commented further since media outlets initially reached out.
