Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the Netflix upfront in New York City on May 13, the singer-actor opened up about working with the “Ted Lasso” breakout in his upcoming movie and his decision was pretty straightforward. “We had great chemistry in the beginning,” she told the outlet.

Jennifer Lopez opens up about her chemistry with Brett Goldstein People“As we filmed together, it grew.” Lopez, who played the intensely romantic Kat Valdez in “Marry Me” and has built a career in love stories on the big screen, thought she knew what she was getting with Goldstein — except she didn’t.
“I became a big fan after doing ‘Ted Lasso,'” the “On the Floor” hitmaker admitted. Roy Kent, this is one of my favorite characters. She also revealed, “I expected more of a tough guy, but you get such a kind, gentle but very smart guy who is so charming,” adding that she thought “it was a surprise.”
Additionally, Lopez said, “I thought he would be similar to the character, but he was very soft-spoken and sweet and completely different.”
Director Ol Parker noticed a spark between Lopez and Goldstein before shooting a scene. He told People, “I had lunch with him long before it started, and we just laughed throughout lunch, and I said, ‘Oh, this is going to be great.'”
Goldstein, for her part, wrote the script with Joe Kelly and admitted that she wrote the part of Jackie Cruz specifically for Lopez, as she told People, “We started asking ourselves who is the best rom-com star, and without hesitation, we both said JLo.”
He added, “It’s easy to write a rom-com when you have JLo in mind. She’s the best at it. We just wanted to write something fun and smart that would be worthy of her saying yes.”
‘Office Romance’ will premiere on June 5 on Netflix.
