Jessie Buckley Sees Red in Carven Dress for ‘Hamnet’ Photo Call

Jessie Buckley turned to Carven for her tonal red look at the “Hamnet” photo call at William Shakespeare‘s Globe theater in London on Wednesday alongside members of the film’s cast and creative team.

The Oscar-nominated actress, who’s collaborated with stylist Danielle Goldberg throughout her “Hamnet” promotional tour, wore a selection from Carven’s resort 2026 collection by design director Mark Thomas. The look was comprised of a red compact jersey T-shirt over a red silk Habotai draped dress.

With slightly oversized proportions, the dress married understated elegance with a playful approach. The deep red tone of the T-shirt and dress accentuated Buckley’s chestnut hair, and served as the basis for the actress’ red lip as part of her glam.

The dress itself featured long, oversized sleeves with a flowing skirt and hemline to the ankle. The T-shirt added sartorial juxtaposition, while Buckley’s black patent leather, pointed toe pumps broke up the mostly monochrome nature of her attire. As for jewelry, Buckley went minimal, save for a set of cuff earrings.

The Oscar-nominated actress stars alongside Paul Mescal in “Hamnet,” a film adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel. The film chronicles how the tragic loss of William Shakespeare, played by Mescal, and his wife Anne “Agnes” Hathaway’s, played by Buckley, son Hamnet informed the famous playwright’s drama “Hamlet.”

“She always was this red creature — the epitome of life,” Malgosia Turzanska, the film’s costume designer, told WWD of Buckley’s character, who’s dressed throughout the film in gradiations of red tones. “There’s this pumping blood. She is so vibrant and throbbing with life, almost like a heart muscle.”

Though perhaps not a conscious choice, Buckley’s Carven look certainly evoked her Golden Globe Award-nominated role in “Hamnet.” With awards season on the horizon, the film has thus far been nominated for 11 Critics Choice Awards and six Golden Globe Awards. Turzanska’s work on the film has also earned the costume designer a Costume Designers Guild Award nomination.
