Report claims court orders Kanye West to pay $140K in lawsuit

Ye, formerly Kanye West, has been found liable by a court after a man alleged he was injured while working on renovations at the rapper’s Malibu mansion. The plaintiff, Tony Saxon, received $140,000 as well as attorneys’ fees and court costs.

Saxon filed a lawsuit against West in 2023, accusing the rapper of unfairly firing him. He also alleged that he was working in unsafe conditions and this caused injuries to his neck and back.

Saxon’s lawyers had initially sought $1.7 million in compensation. However, in the final judgment, the court awarded $100,000 for medical expenses and an additional $40,000 for past pain and suffering. The jury sided with Saxon in determining that he was indeed employed under West and was injured on the job. However, they rejected his claim of unfair dismissal.

Following the verdict, the legal teams of both Saxon and West have released official statements addressing the decision. Ronald Zambrano of West Coast Trial Lawyers said, “Today’s mixed verdict is a vindication for our client Tony Saxon. Ye’s lawyers called him a liar, a fraud and a malicious person in court.” He added, “Most people would have turned away. In true David-versus-Goliath fashion, Mr. Saxon stood firm with the truth against one of the world’s biggest personalities.”

Nima Rahmani, president of West Coast Trial Lawyers, added, “Although the jury’s award was less than we sought, the California Labor Code allows us to recover our attorney’s fees and costs. When it is all said and done, the judgment against Ye should exceed $1 million. We will not be bullied by Ye, his team, or anyone else.”

Meanwhile, Milo Yiannopoulos of Ye’s legal team summarized the decision, saying, “We now move on to a larger and more consequential case: our action against Saxon and his attorneys, Ron Zambrano and West Coast Trial Lawyers, arising from the recording and publicization of an illegal mechanic’s lien on Ye’s Malibu property” (via Diversity).
