The last thing I had on my Bravo bingo card was for Karen Huger to be a no-show at the Real Housewives of Potomac reunion. The Grande Dame has had quite the year, as she spent most of the season claiming she would be vindicated after her arrest. Now that her trial is over, Karen is doing some much-needed soul-searching and has entered into a rehab program. For many, it was a long time coming for the OG, but it took some time for her to get here. Here is what we know about Karen’s journey.
Karen Huger was found guilty of DUI
Back in March news broke that Karen was involved in a motor vehicle accident. After a two-day trial, she was found guilty of five out of six charges, including the lead charge of driving under the influence (DUI). Karen was also found guilty of negligent driving, failure to control speed to avoid a collision, and failure to notify authorities of an address change. The jury acquitted her of reckless driving. Karen is now awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for January 29, 2025.
After the trial, Karen’s lawyer released a statement to People. A. Scott Bolden told the outlet, “Although we are disappointed in the jury’s verdict, we, of course, respect their decision and appreciate their time hearing our case. “We continue to reserve Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf. We appreciate your support and prayers for Mrs. Huger and her family at this time.” Karen has yet to release a statement of her own.
Karen Huger was missing from the RHOP reunion chart
It’s never a good sign when a Bravo housewife doesn’t show up to tape the season reunion. Usually, it is a whole ordeal that leads to more gossip and the possibility of the star not returning for another season. So when Bravo released the reunion seating chart, and the Grand Dame wasn’t present, fans knew something was off. Sitting next to Andy Cohen will be Mia Thornton and Gizelle Bryant. Both women have had an outstanding season, especially Mia. The former dancer has shared everything between her divorce and new boyfriend drama. She has also been the most vocal about Karen’s arrest and pending trial. There was a moment when Mia let Karen off the hook for choosing to drive while intoxicated. Wendy Osefo and Ashley Darby claimed the second spot, with Stacey Rusch and Kiearna Stewart bringing up the rear.
Almost immediately, fans noticed that Karen was missing. After a season of staying quiet and proclaiming her innocence, viewers assumed that Karen didn’t want to face the music. The trial revealed damning bodycam footage that showed Karen yelling profanities at the police. While talking to the officers, she added, “So, what’s your point, sir? I’m sorry; it’s not you. I’m drunk and I’m extremely intelligent. And I’m Thomas Jefferson’s concubine.” I can imagine Karen didn’t want to hear the snickers of her co-stars and “I told you so.”
Karen Huger has decided to get help
After the seating chart was released, word spread that Karen had decided to enter a rehab facility. The Real Housewives of Potomac star’s manager, Ryan Tresdale, told Bravo’s Daily Dish, “Karen made the important decision to enter a private recovery program, so was unable to attend the reunion taping today.” The statement continued “She was fully supported in this choice. We stand behind Karen as she embarks on this meaningful journey and are proud of her for taking such a significant step forward in her personal growth.”
Andy told People, “I haven’t really processed it yet. But I think it’s very sad.” Fans and other Bravolebs took to the Bravo comments to note their confusion and support. Porsha Williams asked, “Where’s Karen?” While another fan simply wrote “The Grand Scam.” Even though Karen did not attend the reunion, it could be that Bravo is planning to do a one-on-one with the star to get her side of the story without any interruptions. Either way, Karen’s choice to take her health into her own hands is admirable, and we wish her a speedy recovery.
The Real Housewives of Potomac is available to stream on Peacock.
