The Golden Globes are known for hosting the event with a certain amount of generosity. After all, who doesn’t want to make fun of busy celebs? But nikki glaser went a step further and criticized CBS News – a potentially risky move since the awards have a five-year broadcast agreement with CBS. Even riskier — sources say the comedian didn’t snub studio bosses before the show.
Nikki Glaser takes aim at CBS News while hosting Golden Globes
Nikki tackled the assignment during her second Globes hosting stint on Sunday. Along with the usual comment about Leonardo DiCaprio (it’s too easy) and the NSFW comment about Michael B. Jordan, he also took aim at CBS. He declared: “The award for best editing goes to CBS News. Yes. CBS News: America’s hottest new place to watch BS-news.”
The audience loved the joke, with the (presumably in-discussion) celebs laughing out loud. But the real question is how the studio bosses handled the situation. After all, the Globes are broadcast by the CBS Network and its parent company, Paramount. And according to insiders, Nikki didn’t play the potentially controversial joke to the division boss in advance, reports page six.
The quip comes after a less-than-smooth few weeks for CBS’s newly appointed editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, whose decision to end a 60 Minutes segment on deportation to an El Salvador prison drew headlines and an internal backlash. CBS News has previously drawn the ire of President Trump when he claimed the network edited Kamala Harris’s interview to make it look better ahead of the 2024 election. He sued for “election interference” and CBS’s parent company eventually settled for $16 million.
But according to an industry insider, Nikki’s joke is no big deal. The source tells Page Six that Nikki won’t need to air it out to her boss at first. He revealed: “The news division is completely separate,” he added, “let’s move forward.”
Oh ok. So, about that Leo joke…
