Pitt star Noah Wyle criticizes the US healthcare system
The hit medical procedural series, The Pit, has gained widespread popularity for its realistic portrayal of an underfunded and understaffed emergency room. Noah Wyle plays Dr. Michael ‘Robbie’ Robinovitch, the leader of the emergency room. During his appearance at the screening, Wyle was hopeful that fans in the UK would find the show relevant.
The former ER actor also said that the UK healthcare system was different from the US. He said of the American health care system, “Right now our system is filled with insurance companies being middlemen… and care being delivered according to algorithms set by the insurance company. So it’s really become a profit-driven, reducing quality of care system.”
Wyle said, “I personally think we need some kind of national health service in the United States. We need universal coverage for everybody.” He also said that the UK healthcare system was “disappointing for completely different reasons.” For those who don’t know, UK citizens get comprehensive free care thanks to the publicly funded National Health Service, or NHS.
All episodes of Season 1 and most of the episodes of Season 2 will come together for UK fans to stream via the official HBO Max URL. The streamer will also be available through launch partners Sky and Prime Video. The 12th episode of Season 2 will be released in the US on March 26.
R. Created by Scott Gemmill, the series also stars Tracy Ifechor, Patrick Ball, Kathryn LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif and Taylor Dearden. In 2025, Wyle won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Meanwhile, LaNasa took home the trophy for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
