Junior and Caroline’s life and untimely death are recounted in his 2005 memoir, What Remains: A Memoir of Fate, Friendship, and Love. But how does Carol know these people? I can explain.
How is RHONY cast member Carole Radziwill connected to JFK Jr.?
Carole met the Kennedys through her late husband, Prince Anthony Radziwill. Anthony was a first cousin of JFK Jr. Apart from blood ties, Anthony was also one of JFK Jr.’s closest friends.
To explain his lineage, Anthony’s mother was Lee Radziwill, an American socialite. His father was a Polish prince named Stanisław Albrecht Radziwill. So, how does this family connect to the Kennedys? Easy, Lee’s older sister was Jacqueline Lee Bouvier, who later became Jacqueline Kennedy after her marriage to John F. Kennedy in 1953.
In 1959, Lee and Stanislav welcomed Prince Anthony into their entourage. In 1960, Jacqueline and JFK had a son, JFK. Considering how close they were in age as well as being relatives, Anthony and JFK Jr. were very close. So, when Carol married Anthony in 1994, she also became closer to JFK Jr. and his wife Caroline.
In 1999, JFK Jr., Carolyn, and her sister, Lauren Bassett, were all killed in a tragic plane crash. Just a few weeks later, Carol’s husband joined her in death after a long battle with cancer. Carroll never remarried, but when she joined RHONY in 2012, at least, she enjoyed a longtime love affair with Adam Kenworthy, her co-star Luann de Lesseps’ then-personal chef.
Carole Radziwill has often reflected on her relationship with the Kennedys, including Caroline Bessette.
On RHONY, Carole recounted her ties to the Kennedy family, including Caroline, who married into the family through her marriage to JFK Jr. in 1996. Before filming began, Carroll made it clear that she did not want her entire story to be related to Kennedy.
As Carroll explained, “I was not going to go in and exploit my late husband’s family or the Kennedy family.” So, “except in the history package in the first season or the second season, when you had to explain who you are, I never said anything about the Kennedy family,” she insisted. Too bad her co-stars didn’t have the same energy.
“I remember Sonya (Morgan) saying one year, I partied with Jon Jon or did something stupid,” Carroll said. But Carroll “didn’t like hearing that because A, it’s not true. And B, no one who knew him actually called him John John.”
But last year, CNN released a three-part series called American Prince: JFK Jr., and here, Carroll candidly admitted, “All I could think about (when John, Caroline and Anthony died), I would be the only one (of us) left.” On her friendship with Caroline, Carroll further shared, “She was pretty extraordinary in a lot of ways. We were in our late 20s at the time, and she was the first girl I knew who was, like, this overused expression, ‘a girl’s girl.’ She was gorgeous.”
Carole Radziwill to return to RHONY season 16
Carroll left RHONY after season 10. But when Season 16 came to town, she was screwed! However, this time, Carroll is taking baby steps. Instead of stepping into the role full-time, Carroll has been filming as a friend of the cast, so she’s only part-time (for now).
After a year-long hiatus for this franchise, many fans wondered how the series could continue. But now, with Carroll back in the mix, this formerly restarted town may come back to life.
Carroll is rumored to be joined by Erin Latchey, Cy De Silva, and Jesse Tank. On the other hand, Jenna Lyons, Brianna Whitfield and Raquel Chevremont are out.
