Law enforcement officials have identified the suspect accused of opening fire outside Rihanna’s Los Angeles home as Evanna Lisette Ortiz, a 35-year-old woman from Orlando, Florida. According to the Los Angeles Police Department (via fox 11), Ortiz was taken into custody immediately after the alleged shooting and has since been charged with attempted murder.
Officials say that this worrying incident happened in the Beverly Crest area at around 1:20 pm on Sunday afternoon. Investigators allege a woman approached the outside of the gated property and began firing several rounds toward the home.
Eyewitnesses told police that they heard what sounded like loud gunshots. Some bullets reportedly hit the front gate and the entry area behind it. According to authorities, Rihanna was confirmed to be inside the home at the time of the alleged shooting.
A nearby resident described the unsettling moment when gunshots were heard. “It was scary… I can’t imagine being in the house hearing gunshots,” the neighbor recalled. “…It was very disturbing, very disturbing in the middle of a nice Sunday afternoon.”
Police say the suspect allegedly fled the scene in a white Tesla car with paper license plates. The LAPD’s air unit reportedly located the vehicle and tracked it as it traveled toward the San Fernando Valley. Officers later detained the driver at the Sherman Oaks Galleria shopping complex.
Authorities confirmed Monday that her bail was set at $10,225,000, and she will remain in custody while the case continues. At this time, investigators say it is unclear if the suspect had any personal connection to Rihanna or her partner, A$AP Rocky. Reports have also emerged that Ortiz may have posted messages in reference to Rihanna on social media weeks before the shooting.
