Russell Crowe’s cult horror movie The Pope’s Exorcist is now available to watch on Netflix.
Directed by Julius Avery, the 2023 film is based on the real-life story of Father Gabriele Amorth, a catholic priest who is said to have performed over 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican.
Crowe stars in the film as Father Amorth, who travels to Spain to deal with a demonic possession taking place in a fictional abbey.

If you missed the film when it came out in cinemas or just fancy a rewatch, you’re in luck because it was added to Netflix in the UK and Ireland today (January 19).
Despite being a favourite among horror fans, The Pope’s Exorcist received mostly negative reviews from critics following its release.
The film has a score of 50% on Rotten Tomatoes from over 100 reviews, with the site’s critical consensus reading: “The Pope’s Exorcist is standard-issue holy horror in most respects, but its star’s sanctified performance will be the answer to some viewers’ prayers.”
The audience score is much more positive, though, with a strong rating of 80%.

Last year, it was confirmed that The Pope’s Exorcist will be getting a sequel.
Producer Jeff Katz confirmed the news via social media, writing: “Amorth Nation – I just got the call. IT’S OFFICIALLY HAPPENING!!! Thank you to the amazing The Pope’s Exorcist fans. You made this happen. Gas up your Lambretta – and get ready to ride.”
After all, the movie’s ending left things open for a potential sequel, with Father Amorth shown in possession of a map that leads to 199 other evil sites that he had recovered from the abbey.
