Ryan Gosling struggles to stay in character during SNL skit
Ryan Gosling broke character on the Barbie joke during his SNL skit. Gosling played Kane, Margot Robbie’s love interest, in the 2023 fantasy-comedy film of the same name. The 45-year-old actor is famous for not being able to control his laughter during serious situations. SNL took advantage of this quality and decided to put him in a skit where he wouldn’t be able to stop laughing.
Gosling starred in the skit “Passing Notes – SNL” alongside SNL’s Ashley Padilla. In the skit, the La La Land star plays Principal Witt, who goes into Ms. Perry’s (Padilla) homeroom to scold the students for broadcasting dirty messages.
However, while Gosling was lecturing in class, the students were passing notes to each other until Ms. Perry interrupted one of them. A warning appeared on the screen: “The contents of these notes have been changed since the rehearsal.” Ms. Perry announced that she and Mr. Witt would read the notes aloud. Despite warnings, demonetization continued. Gosling read a note and laughed a little but controlled himself from breaking character.
The 45-year-old man confiscated a note from a student and wrote, “This happened a few years ago. I went to see Barbie with my sister and Principal Witt was there.” He continued reading, “He bought himself a whole line. Every time Kane’s character came on the screen, he’d say, ‘Finally, something worth seeing. If I were still gay, I’d do that.'”
This time, Gosling couldn’t help it and started laughing out loud. “I refuse to apologize for being right,” the actor responded amid laughter. Fans Applaud SNL Skit on Ex One Fan commented“SNL writers are rapidly attacking Ryan Gosling and Ashley Padilla! This is genius comedy gold. Did they improvise or was it a little bad?”. second fan wrote, “And I didn’t understand why they broke the character so much in this drama. Makes sense now,” along with several laughing emojis.
