And we’re back to Charleston for ourselves southern hospitality Season 4 Recap! There’s still a lot of bad blood, but it looks like some people are taking steps forward. In this episode, we learn more about Grace’s struggles, see why Brad is still unhappy with Amy, and see Lake stand up for what she believes in. Here’s everything that happened on Southern Hospitality Season 4, Episode 4: “Giving Grace.”
What happened on Southern Hospitality Season 4 Episode 4?

The episode begins with Molly’s girls’ and lesbians’ night out. This is uncomfortable for everyone as tension rises between Grace and Maddie. Michol is unable to bear it and dips his head for a cucumber from the store he has brought.
Naturally, this led to a game of “Extreme Truth or Bobbing for Penises” (aka Cucumbers). Everyone has to either answer a question honestly or resort to cucumbers.
Both Jordan and Mia were asked about Justin. Mia agrees to go on a date with Justin but ultimately cancels. Not because she thought about Jordyn’s feelings (sorry, girl!) but because she didn’t want to be a part of Justin’s juggernaut (get it, girl!).
Lake was asked if she was on Emmy’s side or Brad’s side in their argument, and she immediately said Emmy after raising some eyebrows.
And when things couldn’t be more awkward, when it’s Maddie’s turn, Grace asks Maddie if she’s ever pegged Joe. Honestly, who even wants to know the answer to that? Grace also sparked rumors that Joe slept with TJ.
Grace kept coming at Maddie until Mia lost her. She tells Grace that she is making everyone uncomfortable and that is why no one wants to invite her. Ultimately he calls Grace crazy, and Molly tells him to leave.
Lake and Maddie sort out their feelings about family and friends

The next day, Maddie and Joe sit down and talk about her friendship with Grace. Jo tells her that she is always there for Grace, but Grace keeps hurting her.
Maddie admits that she and Grace have a toxic relationship. She admits that she feels sympathy for Grace, as she is the only one who knows that Grace is struggling with substance abuse. Maddie understands this, but realizes that she may no longer be able to help Grace.
On the other hand, Lake calls her mother for a conversation and tells everyone in depth about the tension in her current relationship with her father. She and her mother are close, but things are tense with her father as she feels he does not support her in sharing her dating life publicly.
Reality TV isn’t for everyone, and Lake’s dad isn’t thrilled about having all of her business broadcast.
Sunday’s a fun day at Republic, and Justin drops a bomb

It’s Sunday afternoon in Republic. Maddie is walking around, and the atmosphere is cool and comfortable.
Inside, Brad reveals that he plans to talk to Amy about what is going on with her. Because they ran into each other at an event the night before, and he said hello to her and Julia, but as Will arrived, he refused to acknowledge them.
She was really liking his behaviour. He wants to know if she really wants to be friends or if her apology was just cosmetic.
Justin confirmed it was! She dropped the bomb on Brad that he talked to Amy, and he admitted that he only apologized because he was afraid they would ruin his life. It seems like he’s not really sorry at all.
Grace takes a solid first step toward dealing with her substance abuse problem

Meanwhile, Grace admits that she thinks she has gone too far with Maddie. She wants to work on taking accountability for her actions and knows she needs help, so she’s telling someone about her problem for the first time.
Grace talks to Isaac about getting help for her substance abuse struggle. It started with ketamine two and a half years ago. He had a recipe to deal with depression. She shared that some days she didn’t use it, but other days she used a lot.
One caveat for Grace was that she had recently lost a friend who passed away using the same batch of ketamine she was using.
Isaac tells Grace that “No one ever calls me on my best day.” He reminded her that she had a new lease on life and that she should take advantage of it, suggesting she visit a rehab center to see what she thought of their 30-day program.
Isaac tells her that any kind of addiction can be like swimming with a rock in one hand, pulling you down, and Grace shares her vision of the waving baby. She talks about how life has waves, but it’s always important to get back on board.
Microaggressions and the Reality of the POC Experience in Charleston

After the disastrous Extreme Truth Game at Molly’s, Michaels decides to talk to Lake.
He questions Lake about taking Amy’s side against Brad, especially regarding the “creepy” comments. He said he thought she would understand why that language was hurtful and would at least tell Amy why she should be more careful.
To be fair to Lake, she does trust Amy more as a friend. This is largely due to the fact that her and Brad’s semi-relationship broke up. However, she co-signed with Michaels what Amy said could be seen as a microaggression.
Lake understands this is a big deal, because as a person of color in Charleston, she too faces microaggressions every day. She was upset that Brad felt she was being “blind to racial problems”.
Body by Brad… (and Drama by Amy)

Brad is hosting an event for his personal training company, Body by Brad. His business is growing and he is taking another big step. Brad is taking his business on tour throughout the Southeast with the Keep It Moving Tour.
At the event, Justin talks to Mia about their date. She says she doesn’t want to get involved in the drama with her and Jordan. The problem is that Mia has turned herself into forbidden fruit, now Justin wants her even more.
Ultimately, the team heads to the Republic. When Brad arrives, Lake asks to have a quick chat. This shows that her conversation with Michaels was on her mind the entire night.
Lake tells Brad how she felt about the microaggression conversation. She shares that she has always defended and protected all the black men in her life, but Brad said he didn’t feel the same way.
Lake admitted to comforting Amy, but she in no way agreed with what Amy said. She apologized to Brad for her feeling that he was not supporting her in telling Amy that her saying she was “afraid of him” could have been devastating.
Meanwhile, Amy overhears the pair talking and runs into the kitchen to ask what the conversation was about. Ella filled it up and Amy lost it. “A microaggression? Are you on crack!?!?!”
Amy talks to Justin, and he tries to reason with her, but she isn’t having it. Justin thinks Amy might not know what a microaggression is, and, to be fair, she doesn’t in her confessional.
Finally, Amy gets fed up and takes the plunge for now.
