Speaking on The Drew Barrymore Show, Uma revealed that she was overwhelmed by this early role in her career. She confessed to the host that she felt like a “bad actress” among the “consummate” cast in the now-cult classic film. In addition to Glenn, Uma co-starred with John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer in romantic dramas.
The Kill Bill star remembers trying to “build up emotions” in preparation for the role and “deal with my shyness” in relation to his insecurities. “I know I’m not good at this and I’m trying hard,” Uma said, thinking.
Then, she turned to her accomplished co-star for advice. The knowledge he had received from his elders seemed contradictory for such an accomplished person. However, the rising actress understood exactly what she meant.
She recalled that Glenn “looked at me in my beautiful dress and said, ‘Try to work less hard.'” Uma also impressed the star when she recalled the conversation.
“And I was like, ‘She’s telling me the truth.'” she concluded.
Apparently, this turned out to be good advice in the end. In 1995, Uma received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction. Later, she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her role in the miniseries Hysterical Blindness.
