Ifunya Nwangene, a rising star The Voice Nigeria Sadly passed away in 2021. While resting in his apartment he was bitten by a snake. And now, her loved ones are paying tribute to her incredible life, while also mourning the future that Ifunya tragically lost.
Ifunya Nwangene dies at the age of 26
Ifunya’s version of Rihanna’s hit song, “Take a Bow” was so impressive that it earned her two chair turns in Season 3. Then, after her stint on The Voice Nigeria, Ifunya secured her next role as a soprano singer with the Amemuso Choir, based in Abuja, Nigeria. Sadly, the choir’s music director, Sam C. Ezeugwu, confirmed his “sudden” death in a statement on facebook.
As per their official statement, “A neighbor attempted to assist (Ifunya) but his car would not start despite several attempts. Ifunya then ran about 500 meters to the estate gate, took a motorcycle and went to Divine Health Hospital, which is the nearest hospital to his residence in Lugbe, Abuja.” But “unfortunately, the hospital did not have antivenom and he was referred to the FMC.”
When the director arrived at the hospital with Ifunya’s closest friend Pascal, doctors were already treating him. She was having difficulty breathing, was put on oxygen and was unable to speak.
He added, “One of the doctors confirmed that Ifeunanya herself arrived at the emergency ward and explained what had happened. She reportedly told them that she had seen a brown snake that had bitten her.” But unfortunately, “the hospital ran out of supplies” of neostigmine, a much-needed medicine to combat the venom of his bites. Friends found the medicine at the nearby Skylark Pharmacy, but before it could reach Ifunya’s doctor’s hands, he tragically died.
After this, a medium-sized cobra was inside Ifunya’s room. There was another smaller snake near his doormat, as well as a third snake in a nearby compound. But it was the cobra that provided this “fatal bite”.
Our thoughts are with Ifunya’s loved ones.
