Since Daniel lives in Nigeria while Lisa lives in Pennsylvania, she immediately decided that she wanted to travel to meet him in person.
Although they are immediately attracted to each other, Lisa and Daniel have a complicated relationship. Lisa is still married, which Daniel does not know about. Shortly after arriving, Lisa learns that things with Daniel will not be as easy as she expected. Daniel clearly became angry with Lisa as she struggled to immediately adjust to Nigerian culture. He became angry when she could not pronounce Igbo words correctly or tie a traditional headdress. Daniel also has a serious problem with Lisa’s vaping habits. At one point, Lisa walked out of dinner when Daniel was raising his voice and yelling at her for being drunk, even though she was not. While Lisa and Daniel’s first meeting was emotional, things soon took a turn for the worse.
Lisa is hiding many aspects of her past from Daniel, which he probably won’t mind
Lisa has been hiding many things this season that she knows Daniel probably won’t tolerate. One of the biggest secrets that Lisa is hiding is the fact that she has been married five times. She initially tells Daniel that she has been married twice. To make things more complicated, Lisa is still married. She is awaiting divorce, although it has not been finalized yet. If Lisa and Daniel got married, he would become her sixth spouse. Lisa knows Daniel probably won’t be happy about this, and she has put off telling him for as long as possible.
Another thing that Lisa is hiding from Daniel is the fact that she has only been with women for the last twenty-one years. Lisa has only told Daniel that he is having an affair with a woman, not that he has been married to two women. Daniel did not react well to the fling and claimed that women being together was not acceptable in his culture. It’s clear that Daniel is not a supporter of the LGBTQ community, leaving some viewers unsure why Lisa wants to be with him. When Daniel learns the truth, his entire relationship with Lisa may be ruined.
Lisa lies to Danielle’s uncle to get his blessing
Recently in Season 8, Daniel took Lisa to meet his uncle to get his blessing for the wedding. Despite his uncle being present at the airport for the engagement, Daniel insisted that he still needed to give his blessing. Lisa explained that in America, blessings were usually given before proposing, but Daniel claimed it was the opposite in Nigeria.
Daniel’s uncle was less than welcoming to Lisa at the airport. Despite his best efforts to learn more about the culture, he quickly becomes frustrated with it for not succumbing at the appropriate time. Lisa was asked many questions about which she was not entirely truthful. He lied about his smoking habits, as well as the fact that he was married to two women. Lisa eventually received a blessing, but it was not genuine because she had not told the truth. Lisa and Daniel do not have a relationship based on real trust, which has made their relationship quite controversial.
