In conversation with Erin and Sarah Foster Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, Shepard opened up about her early conversations with Hudson. She recalled playing poker at her brother Oliver’s house when she got into the game. Although Hudson was still married to Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, Sheppard admitted that her relationship status did not stop him from trying to impress her.
“I gave him 111% of my charm, didn’t I?” Shepard recalled Hudson describing her as “very beautiful”. He also admitted that he had a crush on her.
Shepard said that he left that evening feeling that he had tried his best to impress Hudson, even though nothing had happened between them at that time. However, he got another chance after Hudson and Robinson separated in 2007.
The actor recalled attending a dinner in Malibu at the invitation of Steve Brill, where he learned that Hudson was single. Shepard decides to try her luck again, hoping to recreate the chemistry of their first meeting.
“And she’s alone now and I’m like, let’s see if we can muster this magic and get it started again. And then I started it again,” he said.
Their second attempt proved more successful, as the two began dating shortly thereafter. Their relationship lasted for a few months and they eventually separated.
Reminiscing about their brief romance, Shepard recalled how her initial attempt to impress Hudson in a poker game eventually turned into a relationship after their marriage ended.
