Pope Leo XIV recently delivered a message on the war between the US and Iran and called out Donald Trump. Trump launched joint military operations with Israel against Iran in late February 2026. Earlier, Trump had also hinted at talks with Iran, but he later condemned the claims.
Pope Leo has a message on the Iran war
Pope Leo recently spoke at Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square, where he shared his views on the Iran war and criticized Donald Trump for his decision.
The Pope referred to a Biblical passage and asserted, “Brothers and sisters, this is our God: Jesus, the King of peace, who rejects war, whom no one can use to justify war. He does not hear the prayers of those who make war, but rejects them” (via hill).
Earlier, according to a report ap newsDefense Secretary Peter Hegseth gave a speech at a Christian service at the Pentagon in which he justified the war. He asserted, “It is appropriate to be here every month. This month, at this time, is even more appropriate, given what thousands of Americans are going through right now. Let each period make its mark on righteousness and against the enemies of our great nation. Give them wisdom in every decision, patience for the trial ahead, unwavering unity, and tremendous violence of action against those who deserve no mercy.”
This is not the first time the Pope has called for a US-Iran war. He took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and called on the parties involved to use dialogue rather than weapons to resolve their conflicts. “Stability and peace are achieved neither through mutual threats, nor through the use of weapons that cause destruction, suffering and death, but only through fair, honest and responsible dialogue,” he said.
