according to Diversity, Blanchett said the #MeToo movement “died out too quickly” despite exposing a deeply entrenched culture of abuse in many industries. “What it revealed is a systemic layer of abuse,” said Blanchett. “And if you don’t identify a problem, you can’t solve the problem.”
The actress questioned why the conversation around harassment and abuse seems to be losing momentum even after so many women publicly shared their experiences in 2017.
“There are a lot of people on platforms who are able to speak with relative safety,” Blanchett said before asking. The two-time Oscar winner also talked about the gender imbalance that she still notices while working on film sets.
Apparently, Blanchett has developed the habit of mentally counting how many women are present during presentations. Discussing the environment behind the scenes, he said, “Every morning there are 10 women and 75 men.”
Blanchett clarified that her criticism is not aimed at the men themselves, but at how repetitive and limiting homogeneous work environments can be.
He added, “I love men.” “But the jokes remain the same.”
The actress has been speaking publicly about gender inequality in Hollywood for years. In 2018, she joined 81 other women in a symbolic protest in Cannes, highlighting the lack of female directors in the festival’s history.
At the time, Blanchett reported that only 82 women had competed at Cannes, compared to more than 1,500 male directors. During this year’s conversation, the actress suggested that progress has been made in some areas, but not that fast.
