During the June 16 episode of The View, Vice President J.D. Vance sat down with the panel for a wide-ranging conversation on topics related to Donald Trump’s administration and current political issues. As the interview ended, Ana Navarro attempted to ask one last question while Whoopi Goldberg was attempting to take the show to a commercial break.
The result was an awkward live-TV moment, in which Goldberg exclaimed, “God, Ana, please!” Before adding, “Don’t do that.”
A few days later, Navarro addressed the conversation with executive producer Brian Teta on The View’s companion show, Behind the Table.
Navarro admitted, “You know there was a little tense moment with Whoopi and I.” Entertainment Weekly.
According to Navarro, the matter came down to time rather than personal conflict. He revealed that he had hoped to ask Vance whether he condemned the comments he made to former First Lady Michelle Obama, but ran out of time.
“That moment with Whoopi, first of all, look, it’s a live show, that’s why it gets messed up sometimes,” Navarro explained. “We ran out of time.”
She also acknowledged Goldberg’s responsibility as moderator, saying, “Whoopi’s job is to be the moderator and be the moderator.”
Teta echoed that sentiment, noting that several crew members were signaling that the segment was ending. Navarro joked that he felt like “that guy at the Oscars trying to finish his speech and they cut the mic.”
Most importantly, Navarro made it clear that there is no bad blood between the co-hosts. He said, “Whoopi Goldberg and I are close friends and we don’t take it out of the studio.” βIt didn’t matter to me, I don’t think it made any difference to him either.β
While the clip garnered a lot of buzz online, Navarro stressed that it was just another busy day at “The View.”
