News anchor Dana Bash questions Trump Media & Technology Group’s (TMTG) new launch, the “Truth API.” The API is a paid data feed for business organizations that gives them access to posts from high-ranking Trump Truth social accounts. This will give companies millisecond-faster access than the general public.
While appearing on-air, Bash questioned the launch. He said, “How is this not insider trading? President Trump’s media company is going to start selling instant access to Truth Social posts to Wall Street firms, including posts by the President and his son. This appears to be another example of the Trump family profiting from his presidency.”
However, CNN senior business reporter Dave Goldman said that while it is common for platforms like X and Meta to sell API access, questions have been raised about Trump’s 40% stake in the company. He said, “So basically, this company is saying, yes, we acknowledge that people are buying and selling stock based on what the president says on Truth Social. And now we’re going to sell it even faster so the company can make money.”
The Trump administration has responded to the allegations of CNN journalists. Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said the allegations are “absolutely absurd”, claiming Trump has sacrificed his personal earnings for the public. Multiple investigative reports suggest that Trump has made billions of dollars from his digital assets.
According to this, the Truth Media API has earned criticism from various Ok! magazine. Utah Republican Senator John Curtis also criticized the platform, saying it was not good governance. However, Donald Trump himself has not addressed the allegations.
