After three years at the helm, Sean McGirr is leaving McQueen as creative director. Kering installed the Irish designer at the helm of the house at the end of 2023, after Sarah Burton stepped down from her role as creative director, a position she held for 13 years. Sean McGirr said: “I have deep gratitude for the dedication of the studios and ateliers and the craftsmen.” The announcement comes hot on the heels of the brand’s spectacular comeback at London Fashion Week last month. New creative leadership will be announced soon.

“What a happy day.” (mesmerizedp123)

“I hope after this they close the label and give it a rest.” (Nunova)

“With the exception of Hussein Chalayan or Oivier Theyskens, there is no one suitable for this position. But given that they were his contemporaries, they would never accept it if offered. Shut it down, and redistribute the workforce among the existing Kering brands. Just let it lie dormant for a few decades.” (DesEsseintes)

“As someone who worked for Alexander McQueen for many years, and witnessed the decline and weakening of the brand, I can’t help but be very happy. Now, please close the house!” (just passing by)

“Scene’s collections weren’t McQueen, and haven’t really been since Lee left.” (emalani)
