Jimmy Fallon jokes that journalists could face jail time after Donald Trump’s threat
The late-night host referred to Trump’s anger over coverage of a recent Ohio rally, where reports said attendance was below the building’s capacity.
Fallon said, “Get this. Trump is now saying that reporters from The New York Times and other media outlets should be arrested for their coverage of his rallies.” He then imagined how journalists might react to this threat: “Reporters aren’t worried. They say, ‘If we can sit through a two-hour Trump speech, we can handle jail. Eh, we’re good.'”
Fallon continued to ridicule Trump’s complaints about the coverage of the rally. “Trump is mad because reporters said his Ohio rally was small,” he said. “Well, he technically didn’t say it was small. He just said, ‘It’s cute.'”
He also mocked Trump’s description of the Ohio site. “Trump claimed his rally in Ohio was at the Ohio Arena, even though he gave a speech in a high-school gymnasium. Oops.”
Fallon then imagined another scenario involving Trump’s future rallies. “Now he’s claiming his next rally is at Texas Stadium, but it’s really at the Longhorn Steakhouse in the birthday-party room,” she said.
The jokes came as Fallon discussed the media’s widespread criticism of Trump. He also cited the President’s recent comments about journalists.
Trump has Women journalists targeted. On Monday, he called Fox News’s Jessica Tarlov a “loser” and told CNN’s Kristen Holmes, “Your whole outfit is fake, and so are you.”
