Sam Neill’s family released a statement on social media announcing that he had died at the age of 78. “Sam was surrounded by family and passed away with the dignity that characterized his entire life. The loss was sudden and unexpected but there is good fortune in the fact that Sam remains cancer-free,” the statement said.
In his 2023 memoir, Did I Ever Tell You This? In 2017, Neil revealed that he was diagnosed with stage three cancer. After the release of the book, he shared that a chemotherapy drug is helping in the management of cancer. He too shared More on his cancer diagnosis and treatment with 7News. He said, “I’ve been living with a particular type of lymphoma for about five years, and I was on chemotherapy, (which was) quite a miserable business, but it was keeping me alive.” However, Neil noted that when chemotherapy stopped being effective, he became uncertain about his life.
Later, he enrolled in the CAR T-cell therapy clinical trial in Australia. At that time he was scanned and it was revealed that there was no cancer in his body. “I’m very, very excited that this could happen. Now it’s time for me to do another movie,” Neill said earlier this year.
As per his filmography, his last films are Godzilla x Kong: Supernova and The Last Resort. Last year, he played Paul Souter in the series Untamed and voiced the Magpie in The Fox. In addition to the Jurassic Park film series, he is also widely known for his roles in Peaky Blinders, The Tudors, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, and the Peter Rabbit film series.
