In addition to the introduction of the new cast, the first few minutes of episode 1 hinted at an iconic season. It included tears, tantrums, and the line: “But you’re a mental bitch.” And, it all started with a summer banquet hosted by the Man of London, Mark-Francis. The former Made in Chelsea star brought the ladies together for a gathering… and a hefty dose of gossip was delivered (more on that in a moment).

Mark-Francis kicked off season 1 of Ladies of London: The New Rain with an “amazing” garden party. Describing herself as “not a socialite” but a “social creature”, she explained what viewers can expect from her as the episode unfolds. “Scandal is fun,” he said.

One by one the London women arrived at Mark-Francis’s party, but Emma and Dara were conspicuously absent due to other commitments. When she wasn’t in attendance, Darius’ ears must have been burning, because it wasn’t long before Martha and Margo spilled some hot tea on him…much to Myka’s displeasure.

Martha and Margo reveal the rumor they heard that the architect Darius is actually a madam. Yeah, like, a madam who runs a brothel. Dara was not at Mark-Francis’ party to defend herself, but fellow American Maika jumped in to quell the accusation, which Meese described as “soul-destroying”.

The women continue to ponder Madame’s accusation for the rest of the episode, and later, in a one-on-one, Martha confesses to Misse that if she hears a rumor, she has no problem spreading it. Hence, the Madam storyline came into existence.

Meanwhile, Maika sat down with Dara to tell him what the other women were saying about her, but she seemed completely unbothered about it. β€œIt’s like totally beneath me,” she said. “I don’t care.” It is possible that these days people are considering you as madam, is this wrong?

Outside of Mark-Francis’ garden party, viewers didn’t see much of Lottie in episode 1. But she sure had some of her moments that were scene stealers. Within minutes of the season opening, the fashion designer revealed she is expecting her first child with husband Joshua Kane.

If you thought London women’s pets would be Pomeranians and poodles, think again. Martha introduces the audience and friend Margo to her “flatmate”… a live-in magpie. Martha, affectionately named Hecate, adores her pet magpie, who also has her own Avery in the socialite’s cozy London home. Describing Hecate as “brilliant and fabulous”, Martha says she is “such a diva” and even compares her to pop icon Mariah Carey.

Hecate isn’t the only surprise animal in Ladies of London Season 4, Episode 1. Viewers also saw Emma at her Longleat Estate home… which has its own safari park. Talking about how she once dreamed of life in glittering Los Angeles, the Marchioness of Bath gave a rhinoceros a mudbath.

Dara feels that Maika is of “low class”

Although Myka spent most of Mark-Francis’ party (and, let’s be honest, the entire episode) celebrating her decades-long friendship with Dara, whom she calls her “partner in crime,” everything between the pair may not be as it seems. Mies revealed to Lottie and Mark-Francis that Dara had privately expressed his true feelings about his so-called bestie.

“Maika is very nice, but Dara said he was embarrassed by her,” said model Miese. “She was suspicious of Maika,” she added, listing a series of unfavorable descriptions used against her by Dara, including “clingy” and “low-class.”

“It was a lot of negative things about him,” Meese acknowledged of what Dara said. “And he’s her friend of 20 years.” In the last few moments of episode 1, viewers saw Misha confront Dara for putting her in a “really messy situation” with Myka, despite being warned by Lottie and Mark-Francis not to get involved in the pair’s friendship.

Roll on episode 2!
