Fiji joins the wider Invictus community of nations as preparations for the Games continue in Birmingham. The move expands the international community around the initiative that Harry helped establish in 2014.

Plus the movement gets another international connection as preparations continue for Birmingham. The 2027 Games will bring together wounded, injured and ill service personnel and veterans from around the world, with competitors preparing to compete in 12 adaptive sports. This event will run from July 10 to July 17.

Fiji’s announcement follows a number of recent developments related to Harry’s signature project.

Recently questions emerged over an alleged Amazon sponsorship. One report claimed the company would provide major financial backing, but as of October 23, neither Amazon nor Invictus had confirmed the deal.

Earlier, Uganda had briefly withdrawn from Birmingham 2027 after Buckingham Palace clarified Harry and Meghan Markle’s status as non-working royals.

King Charles’s team then joined the situation. Uganda changed course after the Emperor’s principal private secretary encouraged its military leadership to continue preparations. The intervention put Charles directly in Harry’s Invictus position.

That episode raised questions about how sports are linked to Harry’s position within the royal family. Uganda eventually returned to the event, continuing preparations for its participation.

The inclusion of Fiji has now returned the international community’s attention to the Invictus Movement. Birmingham 2027 will mark the eighth Invictus Games and the second edition held in the UK. The first Games were held in London in 2014.

The Invictus Games Foundation states that membership in the Invictus Community of Nations does not automatically guarantee a team’s participation in the Games. Nevertheless, Fiji’s inclusion expands the community around the Games as Birmingham prepares to host the event in July 2027.
