according to mirrorCharles Spencer’s “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister” officially launches with significant discounts at many major UK bookstores on September 22. While the memoir has a cover price of £28, retailers including Waterstones and TGJones reportedly offered it for £14 as an early promotion.
The release comes just days after Buckingham Palace publicly disputed one of the memoir’s biggest claims. Spencer alleges that after Princess Diana’s death in 1997, King Charles commented, “We’ll soon forget her.”
The palace responded with an unusual statement, saying that grief “can cloud the intellect, impair judgment and color memory.” Spencer later stood by his statement bbc interviewEmphasizing that they were “the exact same words” spoken.
Despite the controversy, customers rushed to purchase copies. One of them, retired Atlanta pharmacist Mary Scheible, said she wanted to hear Diana’s story from her brother’s perspective. “I would really like to read the whole book and see if what is being said is actually what they are trying to convey in the book,” she said.
Spencer also revealed how Prince William and Prince Harry reacted to the memoir. Speaking to People, she told Harry she was “totally fine” with the project after being asked if there was anything embarrassing about it for her.
The Earl said he was concerned about how both princes might feel about the excerpts about their father. However, he stressed that the book was not intended to be a libelous attack on the king. Instead, he said that its central focus is Princess Diana and her life.
Meanwhile, King Charles continued his public duties on the day of the book’s release, holding events in Aberdeenshire without publicly addressing the memoir.
