During the latest episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the talk show host joked about potentially renaming the U.S. attack on Iran “Operation Sledgehammer.” Donald Trump previously named his war in Iran “Operation Epic Fury”. on monday, nbc news The Pentagon may change the name to “Operation Sledgehammer” if the ongoing ceasefire with Iran breaks down and Trump decides to resume combat operations in Iran, the report said.
Colbert joked about the name change in his commencement speech on Wednesday and asked why they decided to change the name. The comedian added, “Get ready, because this is so stupid.” He then explained, “The War Powers Resolution of 1973 requires Congress to authorize military action within 60 days.”
He added, “Since we have now passed the 60-day deadline, the administration believes that changing the name could allow Trump to argue that it restarts the clock. Oh yes, a whole new war.”
The late-night talk show host jokingly compared the name change to the Sex and the City sequel series. “Now it’s ‘Operation Sledgehammer,’ and the next one will be called ‘Operation And Just Like That.’ It won’t have Samantha in it, so the clock will start again,” he quipped.
During the monologue, Colbert also took aim at Elon Musk, who recently joined Trump’s US delegation on a three-day visit to China. “Trump is not making this trip alone,” he said. “He brought Tim Cook, Elon Musk and a dozen other CEOs. It’s very satisfying to know that no matter how rich or powerful you are, there’s a chance you could be stuck on a plane with Elon Musk.”
