He said art is often a matter of concern for those in power, because it cannot be easily dismissed through distraction or noise. According to him, this is also because people connect with it through emotions. As someone feels that it cannot be controlled, they believe that is why art is targeted.

“I’ve done a lot of comedy in my career, and people don’t immediately think of comedy as something where the performer holds a mirror up to society, but of course, comedy does exactly that. And that’s why comedians are the first to go down,” he explained. Citing examples of comedians who are currently going through a steep decline in their professional lives, he said, “Stephen Colberts and Jimmy Kimmels.”

Stephen Colbert’s Late Show ends in May 2026. He announced his departure last year, without disclosing any specific reason. However, CBS later revealed that the show’s cancellation had nothing to do with the showdown or other matters at Paramount. He clarified that the decision is “purely financial”.

Meanwhile, Kimmel’s show faced a temporary suspension last year after he joked about the murder of Charlie Kirk. He also recently came under fire for making a joke about Melania Trump as a pregnant widow. This was before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
