Bill Gates is once again facing scrutiny over his past relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. New reports and the upcoming congressional inquiry have reignited discussion about the billionaire’s relationship with a convicted sex offender and its impact on his public image.
For years, Gates worked to recast himself from a tech executive to a philanthropist. Now that public reputation faces a fresh test.
Bill Gates swears he had no knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein’s dirty crimes
a fresh Wall Street Journal report Detailed information about Gates’ interactions with Epstein was recently revealed by journalist Emily Glazer, including meetings, photographs, and communications involving Gates’ advisers.
According to the report, Justice Department files show that the relationship between the two men was more extensive than previously believed. Gates and his representatives have consistently maintained that his interactions with Epstein were limited to charitable matters.
Gates has repeatedly denied any knowledge of Epstein’s criminal conduct. Gates addressed questions about the disgraced financier in February, saying, “I didn’t do anything illegal. I didn’t see anything illegal.”
The controversy is not stopping. Gates is scheduled to participate in a closed-door interview with the House Oversight Committee on June 10. Attorney John Moran, a former Justice Department official, will reportedly represent him during the proceedings.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that the ongoing attention has affected Gates professionally and socially. The Wall Street Journal reported that some high-profile events have distanced the Microsoft co-founder, while advisers have encouraged him to keep a low public profile.
The issue has also overshadowed his philanthropic work. Earlier this year, Gates reportedly apologized to employees of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and called his association with Epstein a “big mistake.”
A spokesperson for Gates recently reiterated his position, saying, “Gates has apologized for that mistake and is voluntarily speaking to the House Oversight Committee early next month to answer questions about his interactions with Epstein.”
The spokesperson said Gates supports the release of the Epstein-related files “in the hope that victims can get the justice they deserve.”
